Governance Conference 2016
The Governor Services Team held the 2016 annual Bolton Governance Conference on Saturday 5 November 2016 at The Last Drop Hotel, Bromley Cross, Bolton. The morning was a great success and the feedback from attendees was overall very positive, even with the problems encountered with the heating of the venue, to which we offer our sincere apologies. Further to this, the service has negotiated a slight reduction in the charges for the venue and we have therefore passed on this reduction to delegates in the conference fees.
Emma Knights, Chief Executive of the National Governors’ Association (NGA), provided the key-note speech on the conference theme - ‘The Changing Landscape - Getting it right for our children’. This was then followed by a series of workshops where delegates chose two out of the four sessions provided, the subjects of which were carefully selected around the conference theme; 'Equalities and Values - Maintaining Perspective', Audit and Risk - An Effective Overview', 'Governance Structures - Building and Effective System' and 'Information Management - Streamlining Data'.
The final session of the day was delivered by Mary Powell, Chair of the Bolton Impact Trust. Mary shared her experiences of being a Trust Board Chair, especially in terms of the processes involved in the establishment of a multi-academy trust. The service would like to thank all presenters for their informative and at times thought provoking sessions.
